Scottish building firm UBC Group has gone into administration this week, placing 277 jobs at risk across the country.

UBC Group, which has been operating for 40 years and employs 277 members of staff across sites in Inverness, Dundee, Glasgow, Stornoway, Bathgate and South Uist, made the announcement yesterday, and has said it will continue to trade all the limited businesses across the Group, while seeking to sell some or all of the business.

The group includes UBC Holdings, UBC Group, UBC Homes, Wyvis Building Services, Wyvis Roofing, Mardon Project Services, UBC Central and UBC East.

Administrators Zolfo Cooper said the Group had been affected by the 'widespread downturn' in the construction industry.

The group has an annual turnover of around £31 million.

Joint administrator Elizabeth Mackay said: "Unfortunately, the group has suffered from the widespread downturn impacting the construction industry and as a result has experienced a decline in trading performance. The financial position facing the business was such that administration was the last remaining option available to the directors.

UBC managing director Seumas Pedrana described it as a "very sad day for everyone connected with the business".
