North Lincolnshire Council is advertising all contracts worth over £10,000 to local businesses using Twitter.

This is the first time the council has used social media to advertise its contracts, and businesses can follow @nlcprocurement1 to see all upcoming council contracts with a value of over £10,000.

Councillor Neil Poole, cabinet member for finance, procurement and IT at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We need to keep up with new technology and Twitter provides an excellent way to get our messages across simply and let potential businesses know what contracts are coming up at an early stage.

“I don’t know of many businesses that are not on Twitter, so it’s important that we reach out to them in many ways – not just using traditional ways of communicating.”
