Charlie Mullins, the founder of Pimlico Plumbers, was guest of honour at the launch of Fix Radio – the UK’s first radio station for tradespeople.

Kicking off the station’s first ever Breakfast Show, Mr Mullins joined presenters Trev and Ben for some banter and music, which will become the soundtrack for trade jobs up and down the country.

Mr Mullins was given the honour of pressing the button to play the show’s first track; the 80s classic We Built This City by Starship.

Mr Mullins said: “I was over the moon to be asked to help kick off Fix Radio. I love the idea of a radio station dedicated to the hardworking tradespeople all over Britain.

It’ll certainly be playing in the Pimlico Plumbers’ vans as our engineers get to work across the capital. I really enjoyed the banter with the breakfast boys, Trev and Ben, and I think tradespeople will love what they’re doing.”

Broadcasting on DAB digital radio in London, and available across the UK through its website and smartphone apps, Fix Radio plays a variety of upbeat music from the 70s, 80, 90s, 00s, with a no repeat guarantee between 6am and 6pm.

For its listeners in London, the station also broadcast weather forecasts from the Met Office three times a day to help tradespeople plan their outdoor work schedules.

Paul Chantler, one of the station’s founders, said: “The launch of Fix Radio is the culmination of 18 months of fundraising, research and development. We’re very excited to see it all come together at last and we were really grateful to Mr Mullins for helping launch the station.”
