CORGI has lent its support to the initiative to stamp out sales of stolen and non-proprietary safety critical gas components following concerns recently raised by the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC).

The APHC said it suspected unqualified people were using eBay to purchase potentially stolen gas components.

CORGI Technical Services' (CTS) commercial director Eddie Stanton said: "Working as we do towards attainment of the highest gas safety standards possible, our position is that the trade should always purchase safety-critical components from a known and reputable source, and preferably from the manufacturers in question."

Stanton commented on the eBay concerns: "Clearly in these difficult financial conditions, there is a need to keep costs as low as possible. However, in the area of gas safety, there can be no compromise.

"We urge all stakeholders within the sector to put safety before cost savings."
