The option of an interest-free loan has been made available to homeowners through the Scottish government's Home Energy Efficiency Programmes for Scotland (HEEPS) scheme.

The programme allows up to £3,000 to be borrowed to help meet the cost of a new boiler.

A money back scheme has also been launched to run alongside HEEPS’ interest-free loan provision.

Money can be claimed back for installing efficient energy measures in properties with a council tax band rating between A-C. A payment of £500 is offered with the fitting of a new boiler, while £400 is available when insulation is installed.

Kerry Leishman of Firstcall Home Assist customer services said: "The Scottish government are practically paying for your home upgrades. The scheme is on a first come first server, so it’s important you act now if you want to be sure to access these savings."

Firstcall Home Assist is a government-registered Scottish supplier of new boilers that provides paperwork to support HEEPS claims. The company says it is core policy to actively look for ways to bring customers the most benefit from energy efficiency measures.

It was the first company in Scotland awarded Energy Savings Trust Advisor certification.

Paul Greaves, managing director of Firstcall Home Assist, said: “With the rising costs of energy bills and the commitment by Scottish government to reduce carbon emissions, we invest in our staff to make sure they are fully accredited, and educated in the energy schemes and funding available to customers."
