Supporters from across the sector have come together to highlight the essential role plumbers play in maintaining safe and clean services including BAXI, Ideal Standard, Honeywell and many independent suppliers.

Although plumbing doesn’t grab the limelight, it plays a vital role in keeping us healthy at home and at work; waterborne disease or contamination and faulty appliances can quickly become headline news for the wrong reasons.

Organised by the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC), the week raised awareness of the skills within the plumbing and heating industry while shining a spotlight on the many plumbing businesses that contribute to communities by unblocking sinks, ensuring drinking water is safe and igniting boilers. Quality Plumber Week also stressed the importance of using properly qualified, trained and accredited plumbers in a bid to reduce the numbers of rogue traders operating in the industry.

John Thompson, APHC’s chief executive said: “The week has highlighted the sense of community within the plumbing industry and the common goal of promoting good working practice. Plumbers are often thanked only when something breaks down and needs fixing in an emergency. Due to the positive response and feedback we will be aiming to develop and grow the campaign for future years.”

Francine Wickham, global marketing director for Fernox added: “We’re constantly championing the importance of best practice when it comes to servicing and maintaining a central heating system. Initiatives such as this are really important as they not only celebrate the skilled work that quality plumbing and heating engineers carry out, but they also highlight the necessity for professional training and qualifications.”

Plumbers also got involved with the week by spreading the message to customers on social media.
