Plumbing and domestic heating apprenticeships join trailblazing reform and seek survey responses
Published:  11 November, 2014

Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeships are now joining Phase 3 of the Trailblazer project, with employers collaborating to re-design the Apprenticeship.

As background to the project, a huge variety of apprenticeships in England are currently undergoing an extensive change, following Doug Richard’s review and recommendation.

As part of Phase 3, an online survey for plumbing and heating employers is currently underway, the results of which will affect the content of the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprenticeships.

Various advisory stakeholders are in place to offer advice including APHC, SummitSkills, BPEC, CIPHE and the leading industry awarding organisations and training providers.

“The survey is live until at least 14 November for plumbing employers to complete and we have already had a really good response,” said Robert Moss of Seddon Construction, one of the 10 employers behind the Apprenticehsip reform. “The survey is aimed at all sizes of plumbing and heating companies including sole traders, and the detail provided on the work you carry out will prove invaluable in helping us to best determine future industry requirements for Apprenticeships.”

“The most important aspect of the Apprenticeship development process is that employers have a key role in re-designing the new Apprenticeships so that the end qualification better serves both industry and apprentices,” said Graeme Dryden technical manager at APHC.

“The survey seeks to find common work areas and working practices and we implore as many plumbers and heating professionals as possible to complete it.”

The 10 employers behind the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprenticeship reform are Seddon Construction Ltd.; Andrew Crookes Plumbing; Arthur Padgett Ltd.; Coulson Building Group; E C Merrett Ltd.; Gasway; Leaks and Locks; Millside Heating Services Ltd.; Mitie, and Parker Bromley Ltd.
