The Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC) believes that wider installer engagement is still needed if the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) is to be a success.

Roger Webb, director of HHIC said: "The Government’s new energy efficiency initiative, the GDHIF, is set to be launched on 9 June, 2014 but without wider installer engagement success won’t be guaranteed."

The new initiative will see homeowners eligible to receive a grant of £1,000 to install two combined energy efficiency measures, £500 for those who do it within a year of moving into a property and up to £6,000 for more specific measures like solid wall installation.

Mr Webb continued: “There is a concern that insufficient numbers of installers will register to deliver this programme and consequently HHIC are working to support the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in identifying opportunities to promote the scheme to the trade.

"However, the requirement for PAS 2030 accreditation remains a major barrier to widespread installer engagement. We are continuing to press DECC to accept existing industry quality schemes such as Benchmark as an alternative.”
