Pimlico Plumbers' workforce of professional tradespeople has grown to 200 as it prepares for a busy winter period.

The Central London-based company has recruited 30 additional experienced plumbers, heating engineers and electricians and is hoping to appoint a further 10 engineers before the end of the year.

Charlie Mullins, managing director, said: “Last year’s mild winter coincided with the first indications of returning public confidence, which saw us servicing more planned maintenance projects than emergency call outs.

“However, indications suggest very cold winter conditions will return to the UK with a vengeance this year, which will no doubt lead to more call-outs for issues like frozen pipes and central heating system repairs. With an expanded workforce, we will be able to better service the balance between planned maintenance jobs and the expected surge in emergency call-outs.

“Building a team of 200 experienced engineers serving the capital is a very satisfying achievement that I always hoped I’d achieve when I set the business up on my own 34 years ago. Through hard work, clever management and by delivering a reputable service, we have enjoyed continual growth, even during the economy’s tough periods.

“Now we are seeing a recovery in the economy, we are seeing an increase in both new and returning customers who are more confident about the future.”
