Tameside Energy Services has been fined £45,000 by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for making thousands of nuisance calls concerning the Green Deal.

The Manchester-based firm is registered as an approved Green Deal Installer, but an ICO investigation has slammed the company's sales tactics after the company made unsolicited marketing calls in contravention of the Privact & Electronic Communications Regulations.

The company was making calls to consumers who had opted out of marketing calls by registering with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). ICO also found that Tameside continued to make sales calls to people who they had called previously, and who had specifically requested to be removed from marketing lists.

Between 26 May 2011 and 31 January 2013, TPS received over 1,000 complaints from consumers who had received unsolicited direct marketing calls from Tameside.

The company has until 5 August to pay the fine.
