Building & Engineering Services Association's (B&ES) Blane Judd has stepped down from his role as chief executive.

Judd (pictured) joined B&ES (then HVCA) two years ago as chief executive designate, and succeeded to the chief executive role on 25 July 2011.

During his time with the Association, he has proved himself to be an extremely effective change manager, and has overseen the successful implementation of the programme which resulted in the B&ES brand replacing that of HVCA in March last year.

He also contributed significantly to the process of workforce modernisation and reform through the promotion of the Building Engineering Services National Agreement (BESNA) as a single employment framework covering mechanical, electrical and plumbing operatives, and to the development of a 24-hour emergency helpline and supporting website designed to raise awareness among consumers of the dangers associated with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, which is being launched in July.

“Blane has worked closely with the officer team in developing a vision and strategy for the Association – a strategy which I believe provides an excellent platform for our continuing effectiveness and prosperity in the challenging years that lie ahead,” said B&ES president Sue Sharp.

Judd commented that, following a period of reflection, he had decided that the time was right for him to seek a fresh opportunity that would employ his change management and innovation skills and experience to maximum effect.

Sharp added that she and her fellow officers understood his decision and, although  they were sorry to see him go, they wished him the very best of fortune in his future career. They also thanked him and his wife for their hard work and commitment during his time at the Association.

“The process that will lead to the appointment of a worthy successor to Blane is already in place,” Sharp confirmed. “In the meantime, our deputy chief executive Roderick Pettigrew will be ensuring that matters continue to run smoothly throughout the transition.”
