The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has set out proposals to publish an updated Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) on legionnaires' disease: 'The control of legionella bacteria in water systems' (L8).
The consultative document (CD258) on these proposals provides installers and others concerned with an opportunity to comment.
The revised ACOP gives practical advice on the legal requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, which applies to the risk from exposure to legionella bacteria and includes an explanation of the requirements of law. Some of the key changes include simplified terminology, more readily available technical information and clarified legal requirements.
“We welcome this review to the ACOP on legionnaire’s disease,” said John Thompson, chief executive of the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC). “By consolidating and simplifying the HSE guidance, this should make it far more accessible and easier to understand. We recommend that installers take this opportunity to help shape the revised guidance and respond to the consultation by completing the questionnaire.”
For more details on the proposed changes to the ACOP on legionnaire’s disease, visit the HSE website, where you can also download the questionnaire. This must be completed by 23 August 2013.
