APHC is reminding installers of the need to register as a waste carrier with the Environment Agency if they are transporting any construction waste in their business vehicle.

This feedback comes as the result of an increase in the number of enquiries from installers who are aware of the revised legislation in this area, which continues to require a waste carrier license to be held in most cases. The regulations state that any installers who regularly transport construction waste (i.e. waste they have produced themselves while going about their normal business activities) in their business vehicle will need to register as a waste carrier with the Environment Agency.

Esther Harries, APHC commercial manager, said: “We have received an increasing number of calls from installers who are unsure whether they need to register as waste carriers, as they only carry small amounts of waste. A recent review of the regulations has more clearly identified that anyone who regularly carries waste as part of their normal business activities will need to be registered. We would recommend any installers who are unsure to check with the Environment Agency.”

The Environment Agency has created an online tool that can help businesses determine if they need to register as a waste carrier and the level of registration required. To find out more visit: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/business/sectors/wastecarriers.aspx.
