Stopcocks Women Plumbers has struck a deal with mobile payments firm SumUp. The partnership means that Stopcocks will now be equipped to process debit and credit card payments for the company's training schemes and individual plumbing jobs.

Additionally, all of SumUp’s transaction fee profits will be refunded to aid Stopcocks Women Plumbers in their mission to provide clean drinking water to Kenyans through the Clean Water Kithoka project.

SumUp was founded in 2011 and has been available in the UK since August 2012. It aims to help small businesses and sole traders to accept credit and debit card payments securely and on the go. All of its transaction fee profits made from Stopcocks will be donated to the Clean Water Kithoka project until 1 Oct 2013.

Stefan Jeschonnek, co-founder of SumUp, said: “The plumbing trade is still behind the times when it comes to both the proportion of female plumbers and processing payment. We’re delighted we can now assist with our simple, secure and affordable payment solution in improving both. Stopcocks Women Plumbers is a great cause for women in the UK, which is why we made the decision to provide our solution for free to help the company’s mission to empower women across the sector and to provide clean drinking water to Kenyans.”

Hattie Hasan, chief executive of Stopcocks, said: “The trade is very much outdated when it comes to female plumbers, so for us to make a good and lasting impression we have to ensure we offer excellent customer service – this includes providing payment solutions that are most convenient for our customers. We’re a small business and need flexibility, so traditional card terminals can’t give us what we need. When it comes to customers paying for our members’ services and trainees paying for our plumbing trainee scheme, they are often expected to part with large amounts of money, so security, transparency and simplicity are of great importance. SumUp’s provided us with an excellent customer service, while making the solution transparent and simple to use, which is in line with what we pride ourselves on – it’s an ideal partnership for us.”

Stopcocks Women plumbers will be holding a fundraiser to raise money for the Clean Water Kithoka project at the Safari Club in Finchley, London on 29 June 2013. For more information, please visit http://www.stopcockscleanwater.org/.
