The association has criticised Watchdog's team for "failing to highlight the importance of using registered tradespeople" in a recent episode.

The National Association of Professional Inspectors & Testers (NAPIT) has criticised a recent episode of the BBC's Watchdog for "failing to highlight the importance of using registered tradespeople".

The programme's Rogue Traders team investigated an unregistered electrician selling unnecessary work and equipment that wasn't required.

NAPIT, a government-approved register holder of more than 6,000 UK electricians, said the advice given to viewers at the end of the show was "diluted", and slammed Watchdog for "not researching the subject thoroughly".

"The producers failed to ensure key facts were provided during the programme, such as informing consumers about the requirements of Part P of the Building Regulations and advising viewers how to comply with current legislation if considering undertaking electrical work on their homes," said a NAPIT spokesperson.
