Gas Safety Week aims to raise awareness of gas safety among the public, and the Gas Safe Register is calling on registered engineers to communicate the importance of taking care of gas appliances.

The national campaign has received much support from the industry and seen advertising on TV and radio.

“Whether that is educating your customers about the six symptoms of CO poisoning, or encouraging them to have annual safety check; the more people that we reach, the more lives we hope to save.”

In the past 12 months, 93% of appliances tested by Gas Safe Register were found to be potentially unsafe. Of these jobs, 19% were deemed immediately dangerous, posing a risk of leaking carbon monoxide.

Recent research suggests that 12% of UK homeowners would willingly use an unregistered gas engineer or friend in order to save money, the message for Gas Safety Week is that this could be a fatal mistake.

In the last year there have been more than 50 deaths as a result of CO poisoning, with 16 of those attributable to faulty gas appliances.

If you’re a Gas Safe registered engineer, why not get involved and help remind your customers they should always:
