A team from construction firm Ramboll are quietly confident ahead of this year's CARE Construction Challenge on the Dorset coast.

Alongside other industry teams, they will cover a marathon distance on foot, bike and kayak, raising funds for CARE International, on 30 June.

Team leader and structural engineer Tom Bignell thinks the team could do quite well, though he admitted they may need to step up their training as the event draws closer.

“We’re really looking forward to the challenge and the adventure,” he said.

Bignell and team mates Andy Mather and Tony Pettigrew, who all cycle or run to work, will also have to complete mental tasks along the way.

After completing the multi-terrain trail, participants will be rewarded with a well-deserved meal and celebration party.

CARE responds to humanitarian emergencies with emergency and transitional shelter, permanent housing and infrastructure.

Mather witnessed the work of CARE first hand while he was volunteering in Haiti last summer, where a construction project helped re-build a rural village outside of Leogane, the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake.

Andy said: "The work CARE and other charities are doing over in Haiti is having a huge impact on communities which are still facing huge challenges.

“Constructing earthquake proof shelters and schools really does transform lives and enables people to begin building their lives back together again."

Ramboll will be matching the team's extra fundraising efforts, which include a Euro sweepstake, a BBQ lunch, a race night and mini golf.

The Ramboll team will be competing alongside Bam Nuttall, Fairhurst, EnterpriseMouchel, Crossrail, Kingspan, Portsmouth University, Glenigan and more.

This is the first challenge of its kind for team Ramboll and Tom goaded other teams to sign up saying "We can confidently say that no one has ever beaten us in this competition before! So if anyone thinks they can out-do us, bring it on!".

The team are currently working on a number of different jobs including a set of six luxury residential & commercial buildings on the Thames and a large mixed-use development in central London.
